Review Xiaomi Redmi S2

Xiaomi released many budget smartphones. You will get confused until you understand what to buy. However, it does not stop, so new models arrive faster than the old ones leave the market. Today we will take a close look at a new Xiaomi phone - Redmi S2.

Design

The body is plastic but externally it disguised as metal. It does not heat / cool, as happens with the metal body smartphones in summer and winter.

Before us a smartphone with a large 6-inch display, so it's unlikely you can reach out to all its edges with one hand, unless you are a guitarist or a pianist. The screen is a modern type with 18: 9 aspect ratio. 

The design of the rear camera is copied from the iPhone X, although ASUS, Huawei, OnePlus, and many other companies doing the same thing. It would be better if they copied not the exterior, but the camera specs - S2’s sensors are not the same ones as installed in iPhone X. The back is also equipped with fingerprint scanner.

A separate audio jack and an IR blaster for the smartphone to be a remote control for domestic appliances are located on top of the device. Here also you can find noise-canceling microphone.

At the bottom, you will find a microphone, speaker, and micro-USB port.

The tray for Sim cards supports the use of two SIM cards and microSD simultaneously. It is located on the left side.

The right side consists of volume rocker and power button.

Display

The screen in this model is a little disappointing - the resolution is not Full HD as in the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus, but HD + - 1440x720 pixels. As has been said, the aspect ratio 18:9. The display is not sharp, but very bright with perfect color rendition. The screen does not turn blue or green when viewed from the angle.

The display of Redmi S2 received 5, 63 points.

Hardware

The phone is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625. The same one as was installed in Xiaomi Mi A1 last year. The speed of work is still good. As for the memory, there are two version - 3/32 GB and 4/64 GB. It is better to take the second option because 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM is not enough for modern games and applications. 

The performance received a mark of 8, 45 points.

Camera

Xiaomi Redmi S2 has dual rear camera - the primary is 12-megapixel sensor, which is supported by a secondary 5-megapixel sensor. For an inexpensive smartphone, the camera is good, but it is difficult to tell that you will like the photos made. Dynamic range (the ability to photograph the sky blue, and the building red without overexposures and dark areas) is not enough even in the HDR mode.

The front camera received 16 MP sensor. The quality of photos is average.

In the system, the cameras got 6, 71 points.

Battery

Redmi S2 is equipped with 3080 mAh battery. The battery provides one day of use of the device without charging. 

The battery received 6, 17 points.

Software

Xiaomi Redmi S2 has Android 8.1 Oreo and its own MIUI 9.5 on top. Externally, it differs little from previous versions and still looks original. 

The operating system received the highest score among all parameters - 9.35 points.

Conclusion

Redmi S2 may not be the best budget option from Xiaomi released in 2018, but you can try this smartphone. It is recommended!
